Comments About Gene Wolfenbarger

Gene Wolfenbarger is one of the best people I know... when my wife passed away from cancer in May HE said HE would pay the $5,000 plus funeral bill out of his own pocket if need be! AND someone from the church DID JUST THAT! GOD - KNOWS WHO !!! The BIBLE says we should judge a man ONLY BY HIS FRUITS! Meaning what has he accomplished for GOD'S Kingdom! By his own actions! I wonder when we ALL get to STAND BEFORE JESUS and see just exactly WHAT EACH one of us has done for GOD just how many of these accusers will EVEN be there? Because of Gene's LOVE for people he has helped THOUSANDS of children in Sevier County and surrounding counties! It's really sad to see here, on a website like this one, how satan has tricked all these NAMELESS accusers!!! Just remember WHO IS THE ACCUSER OF THE BRETHREN! Revelation 12:9-11 9 So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. 10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. >>> Do NOT fall into satan's TRAP of OFFENSE! WHAT did JESUS say about FORGIVENESS?

Maybe if you would of been willing to get a job and work you would not of had to depend on others to provide during this terrible curcumstances. Yeah He WOULD OF with someone else`s money....

Why truth is often considered an attack I have no idea? It is funny that Gene's Son and a man that Gene knows to be a tax evader are the only ones to post something good about him? I pray that He repents of the frivolous spending and taking too much money from the people. When the church gets audited by the EFCA and gets rated I may give to them again. I would be cautious if I was you! http://www.ecfa.org/Content/DonorBOR.aspx http://www.ecfa.org/Content/7Standards.aspx Where is the Lodge I gave for? Where is the orphanage? If we were truly about people why aren't we building homes in our community for people, and truly investing in their lives?

Gene Wolfenbarger of The Gathering in Sevierville, TN seems very pompous. I pray for him and wish him the best but I feel sorry for those that are under him. I have seen how he takes people at the gathering church, staff or congregation, and if they see something wrong, he convices them of why it is right. Oh this is how they do it in all "Mega Churches". He twists them into thinking that the overlooking or lying about things are ok because that is how everyone else does it. Being a member of the church and giving sacrificially he even posted once on his facebook that he was on a trip because of the sacrificial gifts of his people while talking with his brother. The problem I see is so many people say well there is nowhere else to go so we will keep going to the gathering church. Or I hear that it must be God for all these things keep happening. Well let me tell you, they are doing the same thing in the satanic churches, the muslim churches, they are all experiencing victory in their minds eye. The reality is, they just have to get you to accept 5-10% of the lies or deceit and they have you out of the will of God and into the world. I pray it will change and things will get right. You know you can only duplicate who you are and give people what you have. And if that is the case I do not want to be another Gene Wolfenbarger, Do you?

I love my Pastor Gene & his family. I've attended The Gathering for more than 4 yrs and have learned more in those 4 yrs than the past 25. I thank Pastor Gene for giving everyone Bibles, Books, Journals, Bracelets. For opening the doors for prayer iearly in the morning. Thank you Pastor for teaching me how to walk with a church and how to pray. Thank you for teaching me about characters in the Bible that my small baptist church forgot to mention. Thank you for preaching 5 services every weekend for the past 4 years. Thank you for moving your family to Sevier County and sacrificing your life that I might know Jesus. Thank you for EVERYTHING. I'm am disappointed that these bloggers are recruiting members via twitter and duplicating their blogsites to try and imitate Pastors. Like the false prophets..We have been taught truth therefore we know Satan's work. I'm sorry your children have to read negative comments about thier dad. I'm sorry people do not fear God's anger when they tarnish his works. If Pastor Gene is not a man of God, his works would not prosper like they have, he would not increase in numbers, be on television, help the needy. I've never met another Pastor that can quote scripture the way he does, and that can't be bought. I love tithing, and my answered prayers prove it works. Givers aren't greedy, their blessed. THANK YOU PASTOR GENE FOR YOUR WORKS, YOUR WISDOM, YOUR VISION, YOUR WALK.

lol that last comment was probably gene.

Praise God for freedom, we do not have to go there or be subject to the frivolous spending. What I think is funny, I got this G club thing in the mail from THE Gathering for the chest of joash service. This says and I Quote: "I want to challenge you this week to begin praying for God to reveal to you areas in your life where HE has not been your primary concern. What are you putting before God, boats, cars, houses, luxuries, expensive jewelry and clothing? I encourage you to make His kingdom your primary concern." Well if Gene would only read his own letters. It sounded like it was to himself. Expensive clothing, cars, houses, luxuries.
Nov 29 2009 01:01 PM
sounds like Gene wolfenbarger to me, give sacrificially so that I can live better and brag about my Italian loafers, trips, and how blessed I am because you gave your mortgage payment, and electric bill so that I may prosper.

As a person who has visited The Gathering I've got to comment. There are some very disturbing "patterns" in Gene's messages that those who go there need to be discerning about. He is a man who cannot accept criticism, therefore in his messages he subtly and not so subtly sets himself up into such a position that makes people afraid to question him. To begin with he constantly referred to how God talks to him and how much time he spent in prayer. Most every message started with a reminder of that. Then last year, in February, he stated in a message how 'he hates people who question him" and referred to anyone who did that as the "10 spies, keeping The Gathering out of the promised land". Now he's into the positions of the church and has the congregation date in their Bibles when HE became a prophet, teacher, apostle etc. What's with that?!? Once again setting it up that no one even dare question anything he says or decision he makes. Be careful people - THAT IS SO DANGEROUS! He had a message last year where he talked about how he has risen to the top and now people serve him. How he used to set chairs for an evangelist and now he has 5 different types of water to choose from during his messages and how Nola knows exactly the tea and temperature he needs between messages. Where in the Bible does it show Christ having this attitude?!?! Christ came to serve, not be served. Christ was all about being humble - never about positioning. There are so many good godly people at that church and I just pray that Gene sees what he is doing and repents before he leads this church down a bad, bad path. People who go there, don't be afraid to question when he says things that don't sound quite right. In Acts 17 the Bereans were described as having "noble character" and examining the scriptures to see is what Paul said was true. This is a good thing - that we are called to do. Don't let anyone browbeat you into fear of doing this. "All scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training..." I Tim3:16. As a body we are to hold each other accountable - no one is above that. Don't let Gene intimidate you. There are so many good things going on at the Gathering, but there are also many disturbing things, don't let those things going on. I'm praying for you.
Apr 08 2010 07:11 AM
Just show the financial report. Is there something to hide? Maybe Gene did write his own praise. There are misspelled words in the text.
Apr 12 2010 04:28 PM
On Easter weekend, we are honoring our Savior who stood before the Romans following his father will for mankind. He was tortured beyond human understanding, ridiculed, and crucified naked on the cross. Yet, on the same weekend, Gene is followed around by a bodyguard carrying a sidearm. That really troubles me.

I love Gene's high dollar dog box. And the wise ones know I am being facetious.
Apr 13 2010 05:44 AM
I hear now that he is selling parking spaces and pews for high dollar amounts. He must be desperate!!! Who in their right mind would "buy" a parking space or pew? How embarassing!!! What a scam!
Apr 20 2010 07:32 AM
Oh MY GOSH, selling parking spots and pew position. It does not surprise me. He is all about money for God's purpose. But I guess Jesus would drive a Land Rover if he would return now. (Oh, wait a minute, he rode a lowly donkey, not a mighty steed decorated lavishly.)
Apr 21 2010 09:34 AM
That just shows he is all about appearances. If someone wanted to give to the church then great! Buying a parking spot or pew is only for show and to say "look at me, I can afford to pay a lot to park here or sit here!" It seems as though people just want to buy this man's friendship! I don't think Jesus would sell seats to people! I think people need to quit giving to this church until everyone is living in a huge house, has a very expensive wardrobe, brand new expensive cars, and can eat out on other people's money as much as Gene Wolfenbarger!!!
Apr 23 2010 01:44 PM
Has Gene Wolfenbarger made his spending of the church's money public yet? I feel so sorry for the people that give their hard earned money to him. I would just like to know what fruits of the spirit he possesses??? I haven't seen or heard of many!! I HAVE heard of people he has hurt in the past. This is so sad! We just need to remember that he will be judged one day for his actions. All of that money cannot buy his way out of that! I have heard others say that it really doesn't matter where he is spending the money they give because they are just giving it to the lord as they have been led. This is sad because there are a lot of worthy churches out there that do show where the money is being spent. They have nothing to hide. I guess most just attend The Gathering for a good "show". How sad.
Apr 23 2010 02:12 PM
just to clarify the parking spots are for future growth of the church. they are not going to have peoples names on them and the pews are for a church in Haiti :) God bless you all Thank you God for sending Gene to Sevier County
Apr 24 2010 07:53 PM
I feel bad for the people who are spreading these lies as they are most certainly lost and need to find their way. I pray God's conviction upon them that they would repent and become a warrior for The Gathering and not a stumbling block.
Apr 27 2010 04:29 PM
I was thrilled to learn that the first cause for the Easter Thanksgiving giving is the Haitian Church. They need a building that will be their church home more than we need parking. We can deal with walking extra feet so they can have a shelter to worship in. Again, on the issue of money, just show us the budget. That is all we ask!!!! I just love it when Gene walks in with his bodyguard. I wanted to go over and call him Pop Gun Pete. Maybe I should volunteer to bring in high power rifle for those long distance attackers. Jesus faced the crowds with no one at his side. He bore the pain of all our sins alone. He was ridiculed beyond belief. Thank for dying for our sins so we can be at your side in HEAVEN!!! (I will never watch 24.)
Apr 29 2010 05:17 AM
seems interesting that we still do not know how the money is spent, who decides how the money is spent and why Gene's name is on everything, no deacons, elders, or proper structure. Just the CEO GENE W
May 13 2010 02:52 PM
How do you know that Gene is going to give the money for a church in Haiti? I guess you just have to trust his word! I don't think it would matter what he tells you the money is going for because the members at that church are so brainwashed that they have been conditioned not to ask about the money and just to give. I guess if I were him, I could give 20% or so of my income since I wouldn't have to buy cars, food, clothes, etc. with my salary! Must be nice.
May 15 2010 12:48 PM
I love how his "best friends" are the ones with all the money! He doesn't give the time of day to the low to middle income people! I hear he once said that he has to keep the big givers happy. I wouldn't want to think that someone was only my friend because of my bank account!
May 15 2010 12:52 PM
Maybe we should all boycot giving to The Gathering until Gene Wolfenbarger is held accountable for where the money is being spent. It seems to me he has the perfect set-up. Give all your money to ME and don't worry about what I'm doing with it because it is for the Lord! Very convienient
May 15 2010 12:57 PM
you know what, at the gathering church this stuff is all being proved true. There has only been cover up and attacks on those who have been posting the truth. Never anything said about the facts and questions. I wonder why? At least they are not lying about the truth. they would probably release the financial data IF there was nothing to hide.
May 17 2010 05:38 AM
I am afraid since there is no one this man is accountable to, I will have to find another church.
May 19 2010 02:07 PM
Our daughter attended church with us two months ago. She is home from college for a week before going to work at church camp. She asks last nite if we can go to another church Sunday morning instead of the Gathering. She does not trust the man. She commented that he is all about himself. It is something that she is so observant of his methods of showmanship. I guess all the money we are spending on her education is providing her a well-rounded learning experience and an understanding of the world. Thanks to everyone for all your comments. I noticed there are no other comments about other Sevierville churches or leaders.
May 20 2010 09:35 AM
When Gene first started he told one of his staff that by the time the church would be 10 years old he was going to be making $250k per year. I wonder what his salary is? Isn't it almost year ten? If it's not 250k, then just add in his wife's as well.
May 25 2010 08:00 AM
I don't understand what you guys are talking about. I've been going to the Gathering for a few years now. I have learned much more at the Gathering about the Bible than I have ever at any other church I had attended previously. Gene is human just like you and me. He will make mistakes and he will offend people. That's just fact but why don't you just listen to the message he gives instead of worrying about what he drives or how much money he has in his bank account? I'm not worried about how the money is being spent at the Gathering because if in fact, Pastor Gene is not spending it correctly...well that's between him and God isn't it? At least I'm being obedient to God and paying my tithe. I'm doing right in God's eyes and that's all that matters to me. As far as the paying for a seat in the church...there has been some misunderstanding. The Gathering was collecting money donations to build a church in Haiti. Pastor Leone from Port-au-Prince was at a Wed. night service at the church. The money for parking is for the expansion on the church parking. Gene is always polite and curteous and I really don't understand what he has done to warrant your cynicism and insults. I have worked in the Lord's Child and seen with my own eyes food being given to families who really need it. How could you dislike that??? I pray that Gene continue with his ministry regardless of you and that he continue to lead souls into salvation. What have you done that makes you so much better than him???? Perhaps instead of picking and plucking at Gene maybe you should take a good look at yourself.
May 25 2010 06:46 PM
Checking out sniitch.com. How ironic!!!!
May 26 2010 06:10 AM
I agree. Why is that person checking out sniitch?????
May 27 2010 05:19 AM
I love it when I hear people at The Gathering state: "I am not worried about what Gene does with the donations. I am tithing and being obedient to God and what Gene does is between him and God." Well people, maybe you should be worried about it! That is your hard earned money. Don't you think you should be a good steward with what God has given you? If Gene is spending money frivolously, is this being a good steward of what God has given to him? I can't believe people blindly trust others. All I see is Gene Wolfenbarger becoming richer and richer with more possessions than most who attend that "church". Wake up people! Do you not even care where your money is being spent? Do you like buying others overly expensive clothing, shoes, cars, etc.. Wake Up!!!
Jun 09 2010 10:28 AM
What the heck is going on at The Gathering? Why are most of the staff leaving the church? Have they discovered the truth finally? Maybe people have wised up and are not giving to this man. People are probably running from this church that Gene has structured improperly from the beginning! What other wives of pastors in this area are getting paid 50-60 K per yr. while other staff are being let go because they cannot afford to pay them?
Jun 09 2010 10:39 AM
You know what I want to know? the more I read this stuff all over the place, why is the church so worried about hacking? Obviously someone found out the truth about their finances and they were freaked out to attack someone like this.
Jun 17 2010 02:50 PM
People who attend this "church" are just blindly giving 10% of their hard earned money to this man. Why can't he show you guys where he is spending it? I would gladly take 10% of your salaries and tell you where every penny was spent. Wake up! There is a reason he does not show you! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out either.
Jun 22 2010 04:57 PM
The Gathering Church Sevierville, TN is one to be watched very closely. Leave your wallet at home!!! Gene Wolfenbarger is a very good speaker, and he will make you believe God wants you to do a few things that are un-biblical.
Jun 30 2010 02:02 PM
The Gathering Church in Sevierville has a tv show called walking in the light that they started to reach out to others peoples pockets since they already abused the pockets of the local people. if you read about the gathering church in sevierville, tn online you will see Gene Wolfenbarger's greed affecting others.
Jun 30 2010 02:03 PM
I agree 100 %. I watched the program once. At the end, he asked for $50. I am choked on my dinner. (I DVRed it to watched it later in the evening.) So who ever you are, you are right. After fleecing Sevierville, next the country.
Jun 30 2010 02:05 PM
Does anyone know if Mike and Robin Nelson are still attending the Gathering? Mike was or is an usher usually for both services and Robin was or is one of the money counters. I did not see them at all during the spring and we went to both early and late services.

After reading all these sniitches about Gene Wolfenbarger, I am wondering why did his son make a sniitch site on his father. He started this site as his comments are the first posted. Maybe Gene did it since he loves attention. But the wrong kind????? I am PUZZLED!!! He also recorded the city incorrectly, KNOXVILLE!!!
Jul 01 2010 09:44 AM
I just learned that Gene has a pool. I am sure the church paid for it under the "we need a place for baptisms rule."
Jul 01 2010 03:09 PM
There's no problem if Gene wants to spend HIS money on those things. Prove to the world that he's not spending CHURCH money on those things. Who sees the finances? Who sets the salaries? It's easy to stand up and say to a congregation that as a pastor you led the sacrificial giving by pledging/giving 50 thousand dollars. What most don't know is that the 50 thousand is easily made up for over the year through the CHURCH paying for expensive clothes, trips, automobiles, etc ... Other people, regular people, have to pay for those things out of their OWN pocket. So, shut up and show DETAILS of the spending ... or in other words ... pull the log out of your own eye.
Jul 02 2010 05:22 AM
I am very impressed with the last entry. You said as it should be said. Just show us how the money of the church is used and we will all shut up. Will it ever happen? I trust the Lord will some how move in that area and cause a truthful cleansing of this log in one's eye. By the way some of us do NOT live beyond our means. We budget the money that we earn and do not go beyond those limits. We eat at McDonald's and drive Chevrolets and Fords, not Land Rovers. Thank you Lord for such wisdom!!!
Jul 02 2010 07:46 AM
After reading the last five entries, I remember the account Gene gave of going to a restaurant with 4 others. He relived the story about how the food was ordered for him by the waitress and that is was so perfect. Then he had her bring him dessert that she picked out. He went on and on about how he always has dessert. And again she served him something her really liked. It was a great story. THEN he ruined it when he proclaimed how he always pays for the meal. Why does he tell everyone about his life style???? Do these kind of stories impress those who just barely get by each month???? I just read the book of John and I am so moved about the humility of our Savior while walking on Earth.
Jul 02 2010 02:02 PM
I recall an illustration that Gene once gave about being a servant. He was at home with his son and his brother in law (I think) was washing his car next door. He tells his son that he wants to give him a great example of what it is to be a servant. Now I'm thinking - wonderful he is going to go and wash his brother in law's car- but no! He tells his son "Go next door and tell ---- wash my dad's car." I nearly fell out of my seat! Unbelievable!
Jul 03 2010 05:30 AM
Mike and Robin are still attending.
Jul 04 2010 06:38 PM
Shame on you sir! We know who you are and how long you've been attending. We know what you're up to and where you sit in the Sanctuary. As if Sunday mornings were not enough, we see you've decided to attend Wednesday night's service as well. So tell us non-tithing, non-member sir; what are your latest juicy tid-bits on The Gathering? Please do keep attending as we love praying for you!
Jul 09 2010 12:09 PM
You must work for the TBI. Do you carry a firearm in the church building as well?
Jul 09 2010 06:01 PM
That must be DZ popping in here again trying to intimidate people. The whole 'we know who you are' is getting a bit old. Can't you try to motivate somebody without using fear? Geez - that's all you ever get at The Gathering. If you don't give and serve willingly, then they'll scare ya until you do!!!
Jul 09 2010 08:50 PM
Thank you for those comments. The "we know who you are" sure does NOT motivate me. It is like gene's comment I will have you thrown out of here if you don't mind me. I need that seat for someone else. The last time I attended there were plenty of seat ready for someelse. The church I attended two Sundays ago did NOT have many seats left. By the way, Mr. Shame on You Sir I have never been to a Wednesday nite service. So, now, intimidate someone else.
Jul 10 2010 08:00 AM
Did he really say that he would throw you out for not minding? Sounds like somebody thinks they are too big for their britches.
Jul 13 2010 11:50 AM
Yes, I have heard him say that at least twice but I don't attend there a lot. Just today someone asked me if I still attended and I said sometimes. But the important comment from that person was that he overheard Gene call his workers peasants as he was their king. Is nothing surprising about that person? I almost said MAN but I will not give him that.
Jul 13 2010 02:37 PM
Amen to all that was said in the above comment. I wish Bobby would start a church. He is a wonderful speaker and individual as well. I sure hope our Good Lord leads him that direction.
Jul 14 2010 02:10 PM
I was talking about the school supply give away to a few friends. One spoke up and said they knew a person who would not work the event this year. The person was asked by Gene to leave last August since they did not attend the church anymore. He said something derogatory about this person to their face.
Jul 14 2010 02:17 PM
I read this last night like I did once before and went to sleep disturbed but prayed to God to deal with Gene. That is his job not ours, I do watch what I give to the church because of Gene. I still love the church I just wish about 100 of us would get up and walk out when Gene starts talking about his shoes, his trip, his pool, etc. We could show him to shut up when there are people there that love the church but they are hurting finanically right now in this economy and they are asked to give more and not helped right here in the church. One thing the father has taught me is to not gossip so people just watch what you give and put it in God's hands to deal with Gene.Go and get up and walk out if you don't like when he talks about himself. I'm going to start walking out because I am with God and not Gene's follower or bank. I was at the new library and saw Bobby Wright and his wife and children. I just happened to be where I saw them go get in their car. They had an older car windows down in this heat of July 2010 and drove away like that. My heart went out to God and I prayed for them.See Bobby is a Awesome Pastor and I saw first firsthand what I already knew that Bobby is underpaid at the Gathering.I told God I would gladly buy Bobby and his family a new car if I could and Gene would not so God knows it all. I remember what the Bible says those that are high will be low in heaven and those that are low here will be high in heaven.
Aug 03 2010 06:35 AM
From the least to the greatest, all are greedy for gain; prophets and priests alike, all practice deceit. They dress the wound of my people as though it were not serious. 'Peace, peace they say, when there is no peace. Are they ashamed of their loathsome conduct? No, they have no shame at all; they do not even know how to blush. So they will fall among the fallen; they will be brought down when I punish them." says the Lord. Jer 6:13-15
Aug 03 2010 03:43 PM
I thoroughly agree with you about Pastor Bobby. He definitely is walking closely with the LORD!! He will be rewarded in heaven. After dealing with the problems he encountered in Louisiana, Gene probably is not a threat just a menace. I look forward to his sermons. I wish you would buy him a car just to see Gene's reaction plus it would lessen Pastor Bobby's burden.
Aug 04 2010 08:44 AM
Bobby's sermons are so great when Gene is gone or sitting there or walked out and not bothered to even listen to him.I wished Gene would leave the church and Bobby be our Pastor ! God knows that already ! I know there are others that have agreed with me. What a church we would be !! Amen.
Aug 09 2010 05:10 PM
I do not attend the Gathering but know some that do. A few years back when we were praying about going there someone told us (not an "ex" but a current supportive member) that in the bylaws of the church it states basically "no Gene, no Gathering". If he goes the Gathering is no more. Plus everything is in his name. That totally gave us red flags therefore we did not continue to visit (among other reasons). I can't believe that is true. How could any group of people agree to that and how could anyone ask them to? So unbiblical. Does anyone out there know if this is actually true? We were told this by someone who loves the Gathering and was on the "inside" so we had/have no reason to think it was made up but I've always wondered if somehow it is wrong.
Aug 11 2010 04:43 AM
I was on the inside and I don't know if that is true or not. The 'bylaws' are not talked about nor were they ever 'voted on'. The entire management team is made up ONLY of people that will agree with Gene that HE alone is God's man to run this church and that HE deserves to be treated and compensated as the 'annointed and appointed one'. There are no votes to change anything because it is set up as led by one man. He will say that he has a management team of appointed leaders but all they are is a group of 'yes men'. Typically, they are the biggest givers therefore they believe everything that Gene says. It is NOT biblical nor is it healthy.

I emailed the GATHERING about Bobby. I said that my wife and I had not seen Bobby for most of the summer and we were wondering about him. The answer was from Pastor DavidS. He stated that he would love to meet me and discuss this matter. WELL, this sounds mysterious. What is wrong with a simple answer??? My inference is that Bobby got tired of being a "Yes" man and left. And just like Warren, the Gathering will have a line to give me about how Bobby went to other endeavors led by God.
Aug 12 2010 05:22 AM
You only mentioned Warren and Bobby - both great guys but what about Seth, Joey, Scott, Guy, and Chuck? It's kind of weird to have that much turnover when 'great things are happening at the gathering'. Beware if you are planning on making them your 'church family'. Doesn't it all just seem weird? I'd love to know more about what's going on.
Aug 12 2010 05:41 AM
I was among the first group of worshippers at the Gathing in 2000. Actually, my family served on Gene's staff. After reading your most recent comments, I can tell you all that you are on track with this man. He is all about money, all about show. Those who were not his "yes" men in 2000, did not stay at the church for any length of time. And it is definitely "Gene's church." It was that way then and I have no doubts that it's the same way now. His sermons revolved around how wealthy his wife's family was, his mama, his coon dogs, and how he knew Jerry Falwell. God's people, beware!!!

So would someone tell us where is Bobby Wright, he was in town this summer? I'll go where Bobby is because he can be trusted to teach God's word if he is pastoring somewhere here. Would love to hear him again after all I shared my thoughts with God that Bobby's needs to be the Pastor even if its not at the Gathering. God only moved Bobby on to a Better place!
Sep 04 2010 07:46 PM
Chuck and his family moved to Jackson, they now own a home. His site is up and it's totally wonderful what Rachel posted about how they came to own a home. God's Way by their obedience to Him.
Sep 04 2010 08:02 PM
Does anyone know why Bobby's face and comments, same ones for weeks, are still on the back of the sermon notes. I guess GENE loves to be called a visonary!!
Oct 03 2010 10:02 AM
my guess is that thousands of dollars (probably tens of thousands) were spent to print them and it would be a waste to toss them out.
Oct 04 2010 08:14 AM
Thank You!!

I serve at The Gathering. I worship at The Gathering. I give a tithe to The Gathering. I give offerings to The Lord's Child and other projects with which The Gathering is involved. I don't need a financial statement from The Gathering to tell me that lives are being changed, families are being helped, children are being fed, churches are being built, and believers are being discipled. I support the man whom God chose to plant and shepherd The Gathering. I believe what I am taught on Sunday mornings is biblical, edifying, and honest. I love my church, my pastor, the staff and my brothers and sisters in Christ who join me there. If you're looking for a church home where the Holy Spirit is intimately present and where Jesus is lifted up, I encourage you to visit with us and experience The Gathering for yourself. Jim Gore, Pigeon Forge
Oct 08 2010 02:49 PM
Jim, ask others who were once in your shoes. Others that have been involved more than you. I know it's hard to imagine somebody else being more gung ho about The Gathering than you but believe, there have been many. And out of the thousands and thousands that have called The Gathering their church home, I'll bet there are about 300 - 400 adults who are still drinking the kool aid. I pray that you truly are being discipled.
Oct 10 2010 07:38 PM
Jim Gore, please tell us where is Bobby Wright? Some of us are worried about him. I hope he is ministering at a church. He is definitely walking with the Lord and I hope he is still leading in some capacity. Thank You.
Oct 12 2010 12:55 PM
i heard that bobby is helping at a church that meets at the miracle theatre.
Oct 12 2010 01:59 PM
My husband and I have been so blessed after finding the Gathering... All i can say God Bless The Gathering and Pastor Gene!!!! Amanda and Kevin Wiggins Seymour, TN
Oct 15 2010 12:41 PM
if the money was not being spent on church things then how did that big building get there?
Oct 15 2010 12:48 PM
Just ask to see a detailed disclosure of their financials. All non profits that are certificied with ECFA will gladly do so as it is required to be certified. Sure, the building was paid for with church money - no one is arguing that. The questions are these ... who approves the spending? who audits the spending? Is the spending and salary information disclosed?
Oct 16 2010 07:35 PM
He totally mistreats his employees. They're all brainwashed and have to answer the phone every time he calls no matter what or they'll be in trouble. Once, one of the employee's wife had a baby and there were serious complications. Somebody near to the family said 'I hope Gene gives you some time off to be with your family'. Well, when ole Gene heard about that he had the staff member who had just been through the ordeal contact the person and tell them not to tell that to anybody!!! Now THAT'S compassion!!
Oct 20 2010 07:43 PM
http://prayerrevival.tv/index.html Are YOU serious? lol!!!! i think i'm going to buy a $45 women's track suit to help Geno make this month's mortgage payment.
Nov 10 2010 07:26 PM
I guess Gene is NOT making anyone mad lately since there are no NEW post.
Dec 10 2010 06:14 AM
Here's a new post for ya. He just raised tens of thousands of dollars (maybe even hundreds) under the deceptive statement of helping orphans and building a church in haiti. i would bet that a full financial disclosure would show that all of the money was given to the lords child which is used as a slush fund to be used however gene wants .... i gave at a chest of joash two years ago that was supposd to be used to build the retreat center - where did that money end up?
Dec 11 2010 09:41 PM
you are right....there is no RETREAT centre. It just seems he jumps around from one worthy cause to another. For instance, there was no back to school give-away.
Dec 13 2010 02:05 PM
Death threats have come from gene and his members. It is time the tables turn. By the way the tbi has begun an investigation on gene and his cult.
Feb 21 2011 08:31 PM
Please more details about the investigation. TBI, wow!!!!!
Feb 22 2011 10:36 AM
Death Threats? Really? Give us more info!
Feb 23 2011 06:49 AM
There seems to be an enormous amount of nostalgia here for the poor, berated, belittled, underpaid, and overworked former staff of The Gathering who were smart enough to flee the tyranny of Pastor Gene. Hey, let's take role. Perverted internet sexual deviate? (Ready for my close-up, Mr. DeMille.) Check. Pistol-packing brutha bilking widows out of tens of thousands of dollars on worthless loans? Check. Leaving for another ministry call with The Gathering's financial support, only to open another church two miles down the road? Check. Adultery between staff persons? Check. Alcohol & drug abuse? Check, check, check, check. Miffed because a request for a raise was denied? Check. Jealous because someone else received the favor they perceived to be their birthright? Check. You people have no concept of what has really gone on the last three years behind the scenes at The Gathering that had nothing to do with the integrity of the Senior Pastor and everything to do with a fierce spiritual onslaught by the enemy against this church. And if you think your mean-spirited, self-righteous, judgmental, ill-informed Sniitch posts weren't some of the bullets in demonic artillery, you are wretchedly blind. It's a new day at The Gathering. Goodbye, haters. Hello, God.
Mar 28 2011 06:02 PM
Okay...wow, what a post. Question: Where is Ashley and the young man who led worship from the keyboard?
Mar 29 2011 07:02 AM
This is a cancer, resist your flesh and the attacks of the enemy. Give not the enemy a foothold. Remember by the same measure you judge, you will be judged. Think about how many mistakes you have made. Pray for change, pray for hearts to be changed and impacted for Jesus. Stop tearing down and build. No one is perfect, let He who is without sin cast the first stone. Forgiveness is the path that will lead to healing, not bitterness.
Mar 29 2011 09:03 AM
Wow momma Wolfenbarger! Great use of big words and wit in your last post. I think you left out some folks though...how about Scott? Casey? Amanda? Joey M? Seth? Chuck? Warren? Ernie? Guy? Or Paul & Terri? Just wondering since know so much and all. "And if you think your mean-spirited, self-righteous, judgmental, ill-informed Sniitch posts weren't some of the bullets in (the) demonic artillery, you are wretchedly blind." Please re read your last statement and try not to supply any more artillery for the enemy yourself.
Mar 29 2011 10:45 PM
Hey, momma Wolfenbarger, most of us making comments here have jobs and provide for our families by going to work every morning. We belong to a productive society that believes in the American free enterprise system. So if some of us are upset about the financial matters at the gathering, we have a right to be so. Most of the post here are just asking for a financial statement of the "church." I don't see how that is the workings of the enemy. Plus how evil is asking about those people who were so important in the production of the "show" but who are now MIAs. I can still remember Scott standing on the stage at the old site pouring out his heart about his love for the Lord. Scott was a rock. Boom!!! Then Scott is gone. There are never any answers here. We ask questions only to be retorted with "why are you being so vile and why are you allowing the enemy to persuade what you ask." Did NOT Jesus himself use wrath when concerned about the misuse of money in his father's house? When the devil shows himself at my bedside I just look at him and say, "It's only you." I then pray to the Father and thank him for protection from such an enemy. Demonic artillery: Is that shooting pitchforks, momma?
Mar 30 2011 06:06 AM
A POST FROM ASHEVILLE, NC: Okay so we heard your story. Yeah, we all have problems with Sevierville and Townsend pastors. They get away with it all. They try to make us into their disciples n such. Complaining wont change anything. Churches have friends in politics so likely they do as they please. Thinks a new IRS law is in affect that states private groups even churches can do what they want with any amount of money they get. The future looks grim. Best we true christians can do that have no church is like Jesus did move to another town, maybe another state or even country till we find like minded folks to share the true gospel with out collection plates or tithes as Satan's leaders do these days.
Mar 31 2011 05:10 AM
The young man who used to lead the musical worship made a mistake. Supposedly, he did something wrong. I was told it was his fault. The person who told me told me to keep my eyes on the Lord and don't worry about it. It was like being told don't judge what Gene did. Now make your own inferences.
Apr 11 2011 05:08 AM
hey jim,how can you give to the gathering, when you owe so many people you had to file bankruptcy, and bought things then filed how honest is that brother,is that what you learned from the gathering, how many jobs have you had in the last several years and lied about.....just asking....
Apr 16 2011 03:21 AM
Is Jim one of Gene's select few who receive preferential treatment?
Apr 18 2011 05:05 AM
Gene must be doing God's work for a change. There have not been any complaints or gripes for weeks.
May 03 2011 05:15 AM
How did Gene drop Easter egss from a helicopter? Wouldn't cause a safety problem because of all the strange milling around of souls?
May 05 2011 05:23 AM
Gene dropped Easter eggs from a helicopter?!? Boy there's nothing he won't do for Attention!
May 13 2011 02:35 PM
http://www.genewolfenbarger.com/?p=2370 Did Gene write this? now way!!! it's so funny that he is so worried about outward appearances that he has his MOM still write his papers for him. good work momma wolfenbarger ... but ... it's a little too rich. better luck next time.
May 30 2011 04:45 PM
that book was written by his mother
Jun 30 2011 06:52 PM
The fact Gene had to hire a "Reputation Repair" consultant should be all you need to know about the good pastor. Check out some of the links when you google his name. prlog, myspace, twitter, free-press-release, linked in, etc...all bogus accounts and cheesy, non-sensical press releases intended to show up in search results instead of sites like snitch. One of them even contains the email address of @reputationrepairandmanagement.net. I hope that wasn't someone's Chest of Joash dollars. Gene will fall eventually, maybe even sooner than you think. I don't doubt Gene loves God, but his pride and sense of entitlement has obscured what was once a great vision. Until Gene repents in front of the church, buyer beware. Find another church to give to. One where you know the funds are being used for God's work and not a shrine.
Jul 24 2011 08:31 PM
As I sit here on a friday night remembering all the time spent at the gathering and reading through all these posts - all i can say is 'RUN - don't walk - RUN as far away from The Gathering as you can get ..................
Sep 09 2011 06:37 PM
Boy, there's no tactic he won't try. Having known this man for over ten yrs, make no mistake! Gene loves gene! Please don't be deceived! Give me a run down little church with a handful of Godly attenders and a spirit filled pastor any day over what Gene has!
Sep 13 2011 01:25 AM
This greatly disheatrens me to read this. I used to attend and until recently believed these comments to be untrue, at least the majority. One of my very good friends recently came to me, however, extremely upset. He said that he had been in a meeting with a man supposedly of God who had actually verbally abused him. He has been a devout and realistic believer for many years. He was in tears and said that he had never, in his entire life been treated that way and by a pastor , no less. Apparently he had been doing work for the "Good" Pastor as a favor to a friend who was content to sit there and be cowed while his own Pastor went to work on my friend. I however had not as yet ascertained the identity of said man of God. So imagine my surprise when the next day, i am availed of his identity and come to find that it is no other than my own former Pastor. I nearly cried myself. God will decide where this Prima Donna Pastor will end up. To misuse His name is a sin in itself. And quite apparently this is yet another gross violation of Those who believe in him and his purpose. Let's hope that it doesn't end up going as far as other sects have in thee past. (e.g. Charles Manson, Heaven's Gates, just to name a few) God bless you and keep you straight, Gene. I still can't believe it! It's truly disappointing.
Sep 22 2011 08:00 AM
back when i went i heard gene say many times that if you didn't like what he said and how he preached or how the church was run then you could leave and now, they are begging everybody to come back for a 'family reunion' ... isn't that funny? plus, you never get anything of substance from all of their crappy social networking ... just begging and pleading to come to church becase 'you don't want to miss it' ... lmao .... #goodluck
Oct 09 2011 08:09 AM
eventually even the weak and fearful will find the strength to walk away
Dec 02 2011 06:04 PM
He just sold about 40000 thousand dollars worth of coondogs i wish i was the reverend at the gathering, gathering up all the churches money
Apr 20 2012 09:26 PM
The church we know attend never mentions money. They don't have too. $40,000 for coon dogs, wow!! I drove through their parking lot the other day, and I was not surprised that their vehicles are still high dollar. Our minister's truck has some paint missing. We love the church next to the airport.
Apr 07 2013 01:42 PM
He says it's a MIRACLE and BLESSING that they lost the building .. yeah, right! I wish i had back the tens of thousands of dollars that he pissed away for me .... thanks GENE
Apr 09 2014 06:58 AM
Like the country song says, the Devil drives a Coupe Deville, and guess what a lot of his church members drive the same car that song mentions the devil driving. Surprising? Not really. People are very materialistic and many are wealthy Masons inside these churches that claim to be part of Christ. There is a pastor and his church in Townsend that claims to really love people, but they offer no place for people to live as the New Testament Church taught. Cronyism is big and powerful in all these churches that spy and snitch on the little people not wanting to become a member or support these southern crooked liars ministries. Sometime ago, preachers or those claiming to be preachers were visiting certain churches and complaining about individuals not giving to their church or supporting their false programs and beliefs and since those not supporting these false teachers or redneck fakers, those not kissing their as* had to face some yelling and loudness. The preachers and priests live above the law and order of things and sadly the police and sheriff snitch and at times complain to these morons that are full of hot air and are a pity party for not holding a real job rather they enjoy lucre and living off people that work hard!

I honestly can't say what has happened to the Wolfenbargers since I was a child and we attended Joy Baptist Temple in Fort Worth Tx. However I can say even as a child this family was pretty full of themselves. They lived way above their means and my father was Associate Pastor at the church and we were treated like dirt. Even as a child Gene was so self involved as a kid and if the didn't get his way he would make sure he got what he wanted. Like pushing me off the back of a moving pickup. He is following in the footsteps of his father and doing exactly as his father has done. I don't know when they left Joy Baptist Temple, however I keep hearing how they roamed the back hills of Tennesee. I saw this sam exact comment from his brother David who is or was a Satan worshiper. This family was messed up back then, Sounds like Gene is following right in the same foot steps of his father. It's sad.
